Translating poetry poses an interesting challenge, concerning the layers of subjective interpretation that lie between the source and the reader.

The translator who also possesses the awareness of a poet introduces an intimacy into the alchemy of translation, through drawing from a rich repository of knowing to give poetry meaning in another tongue. Linda Stern Zisquit is a distinguished poet and the translator of several volumes of contemporary poetry, and taught poetry and creative writing for many years. In The Poet’s Voice, the Translator’s Voice, she will discuss the reading, writing, translation—and working within the spaces between.
